VIR2OZ is proud to present the full details of the 2027 dance competition. As in all our previous dance events, VIR2OZ puts a strong emphasis on professionalism, organisation and dynamics. It is important to us to expose students to professional work among dance centres from all over the country, and to promote and encourage excellence, an uncompromising standard, education and the love of dance.

Age divisions

Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet

Junior 9-12
Intermediate 13-14
Senior 15-16
Adult 17+

Groups

Elementary 9-11
Middle school 12-15
High school 16-18
Adults 19-21

Dance styles

Classical Ballet - a classical variation from the known classical repertoire. Must include movements, steps, positions and technique from the world of ballet; variations from the world ballet repertoire. Ages 9-12 without pointe shoes, 13 and above must dance on pointe.

Modern Dance - an original work or known repertoire from the world of contemporary dance. Costume matching the piece. Bare feet/socks/ballet shoes.

Contemporary/Lyrical Jazz - strong choreography identified with the world of contemporary lyrical jazz: flexibility, expression, connection to the music and a costume matching the piece (shoes/bare feet by choice).

Musical/Showdance - choreography from the world of musical theatre. Theatrical dance rich in elements, drama, technique and emotion.

Hip Hop - solo, duet, trio, quartet and groups. Choreography, fit to the music, formations and costumes.

Open - open group dances.

Main rules

Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet: a performance competition - judging is based on the student's execution. Pieces up to 2.5 minutes. Judging is separate for each dance style. (Stage time will be allocated for all participants together, before the competition heat)
The solo heats are split in two: solo with an original work and solo with a known work/reconstruction. Please choose the matching heat during registration.
Groups: judging is based on the choreography and the performance of the group. Small group (5-16 participants), Large group (17 participants and above). Pieces up to 4 minutes. The piece must be original and not taken from the known world dance repertoire.
No stage or lighting rehearsals are held for groups, neither on the competition day nor before it.
Props: using props is allowed and welcome, as long as the prop is carried on and off stage by the dancers themselves and leaves no traces. Liquids/water/grains/powders/sand/confetti/glitter are forbidden.
Gala show: Wednesday 03/03/2027, 20:00-22:00. Selected dances from the competition, with the highest scores from all categories and dance styles.
Fourth place receives a judges' commendation, to encourage the student and the piece.
Heats with more than 12-15 competitors (from all categories) advance to a top 5.
The competition will be split into heats depending on the number of participants in the same style and age.
Please note: the order of performances and competitions will be set according to the number of participants in each category and each age heat (will be announced later).

Awards

In every category and age group - first, second and third place. Subject to the gala timing, the dances advancing to the gala are announced at the end of each day.
Award for the best male dancer of the competition
Award for the best female dancer of the competition
Award for the best choreography in the group competition (given to the choreographer)

Music

An mp3 file must be sent to vir2ozvdc@gmail.com with the name of the piece and the name of the competitor or the studio in English only, by 01/02/2027.
It is recommended to bring a backup copy on a USB stick on the competition day.

Fees and registration

Per participant in Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet - 320 ₪
Per participant in a group - 180 ₪
Registration closes on 01/02/2027
Registration and payment must be completed by 01/02/2027 to secure your participation - no payment for registration will be possible after that date!
The registration and payment link will be sent after the Tishrei holidays of 2026
Payment for groups is made by the studio manager only. In the payment link, add a product to the cart per the number of participants in the group, or alternatively pay via PayBox. Group payments will not be accepted from individual participants
When registering a group, the names of all participants must be entered in English - the fee is calculated by the number of participants

Cancellation fees

Until 11/02/2027 inclusive - full refund, against a detailed cancellation email attaching the invoice you received
From 12/02/2027 to 28/02/2027 inclusive - 50% refund
From 01/03/2027 - no refund is given
In a case of force majeure and cancellation of the competition by the production - the payment is refunded except 30 ₪ per participant

Tickets and audience

The link for buying tickets to the gala show will be sent during the competition week
Entrance to the competitions themselves is free and open to the general public
Please note - travel to the competition is the studio's responsibility and should be taken into account in the price per participant
